A freight container tilting facility includes a base, a pair of tilt arms separated by the width of a container and each pivotable on the base, and a drive to tilt the arms from about the horizontal to the vertical. A truck carrying a container can be backed in between the arms whilst they are slightly tilted upwards, and the "bottom" end of the arms engaged with the rear end locks on the sides of the container. The arms are then tilted down toward the horizontal so that the "top" ends of the arms can be engaged with the front end locks on the sides of the container. The arms, with container attached, can then be tilted to the vertical position so that material can be loaded into the container high end or "poured" from the container low end. The pivot point of the arms on the base is higher above the base than the length of the "bottom" portion of the arms to provide adequate tilting clearance. |
