An ex vivo method of testing for the presence of cancer associated with chronic viral disease comprising detecting transformation to malignant cells, wherein the transformation is detected by a determination of an elevated level of antibody which specifically recognises a peptide consisting of the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:1 or SEQ ID NO:2 or by aglycoprotein antigenic peptides in blood or tissue.
