The method involves using an iterative image reconstruction process for image reconstruction to provide reconstructing two dimensional and three dimensional images as intermediate results. Projections are divided into two groups such that each group enables a separate image reconstruction. The image reconstruction process is implemented separately for each group of projections. The intermediate results are repeatedly subjected to a noise reduction algorithm after an equal number of iterations, where the algorithm computes the noise reducing images based on a correlation analysis. An independent claim is also included for a device for noise reduction during image reconstruction of digital two dimensional and three dimensional medical images from projection data.
