PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a VCSEL operating stably to a wide range of temperature change. SOLUTION: The VCSEL has: an active region 104 generating laser beams; lower and upper DBRs 102, 110 that are arranged in a way that they sandwich the active region and allow laser beams generated from the active region to resonate; and a varying means for varying the upper DBR 110 in a cantilever structure according to a temperature change. The varying means changes a resonance wavelength by moving the upper DBR 110 so that the resonance wavelength coincides with or approaches the peak wavelength of a gain at an active region.
