PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder device capable of preventing the occurrence of biting of a foreign matter between a piston and a shaft member when it is cut off from a lever side. SOLUTION: When a transmission 1 is removed from an automobile, the cylinder device 11 is cut off from a diaphragm spring 7 side in a clutch in such a state that an opening/closing valve 41 is closed. At this time, since flowing-in or flowing out of an oil relative to a pressure chamber 22 of the cylinder device 11 is forbidden by closing of the opening/closing valve 41, even if the piston 17 of the same device 11 is pushed in a direction for enlarging a volume of the pressure chamber 22 by a spring 20, movement of the piston 17 in the direction is not allowed. Accordingly, the piston 17 is retained within a normal movement range by closing of the opening/closing valve 41 and the same piston 17 is not moved from the movement range to an exposed portion R deposited with the foreign matter on an outer peripheral surface of an inner body 15.
