Cell unit for electrolysis cells or fuel cells comprises two chambers (1, 2) filled with process fluid under pressure. These are separated by walls (1.2, 2.2) which enclose a membrane (4). The junction between the chambers is sealed by a ring channel (3) filled with fluid under a pressure greater than that in them. The sealing fluid is fed into the chambers after passing through the annular channel and passes into them as processing fluid.
