PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator without a machine room providing easy carrying out of installation work and maintenance work of a hist machine or the like from a pit floor. SOLUTION: In the elevator device, a car 1 and a balance weight 2 suspended by a rope 5 in an elevator shaft 6 are driven by a sheave 4 of the hoist machine 3. The hoist machine 3 is installed in a lower part of the elevator shaft 6, and a second direction changing pulley 8 and a first direction changing pulley 7 are installed in left and right sides of the lower part of the hoist machine 3, a left end of the first direction changing pulley 7 is positioned more to the left than a right end of the sheave 4, and a right end of the second direction changing pulley 8 is positioned more to the right than a left end of the sheave 4. It is composed such that the rope 5 drawn downward from a right portion of the sheave 4 is pulled upward after reaching a left portion of the first direction changing pulley 7, and it reaches the car 1 via a third direction changing pulley 9, and the rope 5 drawn downward from a left portion of the sheave 4 is lifted upward after reaching a right portion of the second direction changing pulley, and it reaches the balance weight 2 via a fourth direction changing pulley 10.
