PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus equipped with a rear converter lens which suitably makes a high variable magnification ratio compatible with miniaturization. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus 1 is equipped with: a main imaging unit 1MU having a main imaging lens 1M and a main imaging element MI converting an optical image formed by the main imaging lens into an electrical signal; and a rear converter unit 1RU equipped with the rear converter lens 1RC having an optical path bending element L3, and a sub imaging element SI converting an optical image formed by the rear converter lens into an electrical signal. The rear converter unit is constituted to move between an enlarged image acquiring position where the optical path bending element is positioned at arrangement space SPC formed in the main imaging unit so as to guide the light of the main imaging lens to the rear converter lens and a retreat position where the optical path bending element goes away from the arrangement space.
