<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gear forming device capable of guiding a forming tool to a desired passage in both of a forming stroke and a return stroke, and improve shaping errors of a gear caused by oscillation or deflection of the forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: In this gear forming apparatus for manufacturing and processing a gear which includes a forming tool 7 and a forming head 8 having the forming tool 7, in which the forming head 8 is constituted to be movable in a direction crossing a gear forming direction in order to bring the forming tool 7 into contact with a workpiece 6 or separating the forming tool 7 from the workpiece 6, a direct drive unit 3 for moving the forming gear 8 in a direction crossing the gear forming direction is provided.
