583,684. Sliding doors. ELSTON, E. P. Nov. 17, 1944, Nos. 22786/44, 6202/45 and 10584/45. [Class 20 (iii)], Sliding doors have four points of support on their tracks, only three of which are effective at any one moment, thereby preventing the binding of the doors due to warping or twisting. In one form of the upper track, Fig. 5, a tubular member 24 secured to the top of the door 22 slides over a cylindrical bar 20a secured to the door post 21 and within an inverted U-section guide 27. Felt washers 23, 26, and 28 are secured respectively to the bar 20a the tubular member 24 and guide 27 to provide bearing surfaces. At the bottom of the door a pair of grooved rollers run on a track 16, Fig. 7, having a rail 17 extending part only of its length. When the door is closed two points of support are provided at the top by washers 23 and 26, and one at the bottom by one of the rollers engaging the end of rail 17. With the door fully opened the washer 26 lies adjacent the washer 23, so forming a single support at the top, whilst two rollers at the bottom of the door engage the rail 17 to provide two points of support. In a modification, Fig. 4, the upper guiding means is formed by an inverted U- section track 13 in which slides the correspondingly shaped upper edge of the door 8. Felt packings are carried at opposing ends of the door and track respectively. |
