The barrier unit, for controlling the flow of pedestrians and/or traffic, comprises a base 12 and a separate panel 14 which cooperate with one another, in use, so tat the base holds the panel in an upright configuration. The base and panel are both preferably hollow and designed to receive ballast with the base preferably including at least one recess adapted to receive a projection of the panel to secure the panel thereto. The panel preferably includes a peg 34 and a socket 38 to enable adjacent panels to be connected to one another, with the socket preferably forming a conduit through which ballast may be introduced to the panel. A lug and associated recess may be provided on the base to enable adjacent base elements to be connected to one another while allowing a range of movement between the bases. When a number of barrier units are connected to one another it is preferably not possible to separate the units without first separating a panel from a respective base and a system for enabling panel and base elements to be locked to one another may be provided. Also claimed is a barrier comprising a number of barrier units. |
