An applicator 17 for nail varnish comprises a reservoir 19, a brush made up of a plurality of bristles 2, a passage or opening 20 connected to the reservoir, and a compressible suction bulb 21, which is used to draw liquid nail varnish into the reservoir through the opening 20 and to deliver it back to the brush for subsequent application to a nail. The applicator may incorporate a screw threaded cap 24, such that the combination is adapted to seal a neck of a container 25 for nail varnish. Compressing and releasing the bulb 21, with a substantial part of the brush immersed in the container, draws nail varnish into the reservoir which can then be applied to several nails without refilling. The bristles 2 can be arranged in a curve and the concave portion of the curve faces the opening 20. Optionally the bristles may be arranged such that they define a hollow shape surrounding the passage or opening. The description further discloses a method of forming this bristle arrangement by inserting the bristles into an aluminium tube, crimping the tube flat and then curling the flattened tube to produce a hollow brush element. |
