There are disclosed methods for fabricating a composite structure having at least one mounting flange preform 78. The methods include providing a composite structure forming tool 74 having a first endplate 72 and a second endplate 84, fabricating, about the tool 74, a fan casing 16 having at least one mounting flange preform 78 circumferentially oriented thereabout, placing at least one extended flange shoe 70, 82 having a first side 69 and a second side 71 circumferentially about the fan casing 16 so that the first side 69 lies adjacent to the first endplate 72, removeably coupling the first endplate 72 to the first extended flange shoe 70, 82, placing at least one flange shoe 80, 90 circumferentially about the fan casing 16 adjacent to the second end 71 of the extended flange shoe 70, 82. removeably coupling the flange shoe 80, 90 to the extended flange shoe 70, 82 to form a cavity 92 about the mounting flange preform 78, and curing the fan casing 16 having the at least one mounting flange perform 78 to obtain a composite structure having at least one mounting flange. An embodiment involving a pair of extended flange shoes 70, 82 and a single flange 80 is shown in figure 10. |
