A method and an apparatus for outputting a channel list are provided to output a short name as well as a channel number and to include service type information in a channel list in order to allow a user to refer to the service type information and to select a preferable channel. A channel information is selected from a user(S201). A channel number including the selected channel information is searched by referring to the channel manager(S202). A channel list containing the channel number is formed(S203). A short name corresponding to the channel numbers is judged(S204). The short name is included in the channel list for output(S205). The short name is a name of the broadcasting program of the channel.
