Method and system for operating the air conditioning in a motor vehicle

The method involves emitting electromagnetic radiation by a transmitter (3) i.e. LED, and receiving the electromagnetic radiation from a surrounding of a motor vehicle by measuring channels of a receiver (5) i.e. photo diode, when the transmitter does not emit electromagnetic radiation. Signals are output from the receiver to a controller (7) i.e. windscreen wiper, depending on intensity of the electromagnetic radiation received from the surrounding. An air conditioning is controlled corresponding to the output signal when the transmitter does not emit the electromagnetic radiation.
