An apparatus and a method for driving a display panel are provided to reduce variation amounts of currents by adjusting the variation of currents on whole Y-electrode lines. An apparatus for driving a display panel, which includes first and second control switches, drives a display panel by applying source voltages having at least one level to plural electrode lines. The first control switches(SC1,SC21) control connection between a source voltage with a first level and the electrode lines. The second control switches(SC2,SC22) control connection between a source voltage with a second level and the electrode lines. When the voltage with the first or second levels is applied to the electrode lines, the electrode lines are divided into two or more groups, and switch timings of the first and second switches are different from one another according to the groups.
