PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat storage device suitable for installation in a movable body such as an automobile, because of its reduced size and capability of constantly taking out a required amount of heat. SOLUTION: The heat storage device comprises a first pressure vessel 2 in which a chemical compound X is sealed, a second pressure vessel 4 communicating with the first pressure vessel 2, a variable capacity chamber 6 and an atomizer 14. The chemical compound X causes separation reaction by obtaining heat and reacts with fluid such as the separated vapor or liquid to thereby generate heat. The first pressure vessel 2 includes a heat input portion 2a and a heat output portion 2b. The variable capacity chamber 6 is arranged within the second pressure vessel 4 while communicating with the first pressure vessel 2. The capacity of the variable capacity chamber 6 is increased as the fluid generated by dehydration of the chemical compound X moves. The atomizer 14 operates to return the fluid generated by the dehydration of the chemical compound X stored in the variable capacity chamber 6 into the first pressure vessel 2, thereby causing the compound X to react with the fluid.
