PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a water dispersion containing a chain silica-based fine particle group coated with a metal multiple oxide, and to provide the water dispersion containing the chain silica-based fine particle group and an organic solvent dispersion of the chain silica-based fine particle group. SOLUTION: In the producing method, the water dispersion containing a chain silica-based fine particle group, in which a plurality of silica-based fine particles each covered with a multiple oxide comprising at least zirconium, silicon and oxygen are linked through a coating substance of the silica-based fine particles or a belt-like substance of the multiple oxide extending from the coating substance, is produced.
