The device has a support leg (5) connected to a part of a child seat (2) and supported on a floor pan of a vehicle to avoid rotation of the child seat in case of frontal impact of the vehicle. The leg has an identification unit (10) for identifying relative position of arms (11) of the leg with respect to an outer tube (9) to ensure contact between the base of the arms and the floor pan. An independent claim is also included for a child seat having a holding device.
