PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tooth surface shape simulation method of a hypoid gear for instructing an arrangement (working condition) of lapping to obtain an aimed tooth surface shape. SOLUTION: Alignment of the hypoid gear is calculated based on the arrangement working condition of a lapping machine. A tooth contact position is determined from the tooth surface shape after the alignment and quenching. A correcting margin at the tooth contact position is calculated. The tooth surface shape after removing a contact surface by the calculated correcting margin at the tooth contact position is derived. When the tooth contact position is gradually moved from starting the lapping to finishing the lapping, the tooth surface shape at each tooth contact position of each stage is successively calculated. As a result, the tooth surface shape obtained by the arrangement can be simulated with high accuracy, and the arrangement (working condition) can be instructed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
