The invention relates to a method for producing a ketone of formula CH<SUB>3</SUB>-CO-R where R=CH<SUB>3 </SUB>or C<SUB>2</SUB>H<SUB>5, </SUB>said method being characterised in that an auto-oxidation of an alcohol of formula CH<SUB>3</SUB>-CHOH-R, R being defined as above, is conducted by air in order to obtain a solution of oxygenated water in the alcohol CH<SUB>3</SUB>-CHOH-R and the desired ketone, and the solution obtained is used to conduct a hydroxylation respectively of propane or n-butane by oxygenated water produced in the presence of a hydroxylation catalyst in order to obtain the alcohol CH<SUB>3</SUB>-CHOH-R and the desired ketone, and the latter is separated from the reactive medium.
