An insert (1a) for filter holders of coffee machines, particularly espres so coffee machines, comprising an adapter (20a) provided with means for fixi ng to a filter holder and a disposable tray (2a) for containing a dose (3) o f ground coffee; the tray (2a) comprising a base (8a) which has a discharge port (9a) and a side wall which, together with the base (8a), defines the tr ay; the tray (2a) further comprising a protrusion (4a) on the side wall whic h protrudes substantially radially toward the outside of the tray (2a).
