The said industrial design consists of the shape, configuration and ornamentation of a cap for a writing instrument as shown in the drawings; the cap for the writing instrument has a generally cylindrical section a series of identical and equally spaced-apart longitudinally extending generally rectangular raised areas extending along the surface thereof; the curvature of the outer surfaces of the raised areas follows the contour of the generally cylindrical section; the generally cylindrical section merges into an end section having three equally spaced-apart longitudinally extending identical raised areas having outwardly curved side surfaces in side elevation view and a central groove extending along the outer surface thereof; the outwardly curved side surfaces of adjacent raised areas merge into a pair of spaced-apart generally identical narrow curved longitudinally extending grooves; the end section has a flat end surface having a series of aligned stepped circular recessed areas therein.
