<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device that passes a recording medium between a heated fixing roller and a pressure roller disposed in pressure contact with the fixing roller and fixes a toner image on the recording medium by the action of pressure and heat, the fixing device being designed so as to block transfer of a large quantity of heat to the pressure roller from the fixing roller, thereby preventing a decrease in the temperature of the fixing roller. <P>SOLUTION: Only for a period from the point in time that the trailing end RE of a proceeding recording medium P<SB>1</SB>exits an area between the fixing roller 36 and pressure roller 37 to the point in time that the leading end FE of the following recording medium P<SB>2</SB>enters the area between the fixing roller 36 and pressure roller 37, the pressure of contact between the fixing roller 36 and pressure roller 37 is made lower than that assigned for a period of toner image fixing. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
