PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder which controls the optimal number of times of idle discharging according to a continuous non-discharge time and image patterns. SOLUTION: The number of times of the idle discharging of a continuous non-discharge nozzle and a continuous discharge nozzle which are extracted on the basis of the state of the continuous non-discharge nozzle in the nozzles extracted from continuous printing time information which is acquired from printing condition information from an operation part 3, paper size information from a paper size detection part 5 and conveying speed information from a conveyance speed calculation part 6, head temperature information from a temperature detection part 4 and printing data from an image data processing part 2 and on the basis of the state of the continuous discharge nozzle adjoining the continuous non-discharge nozzle is controlled.
