PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a specific rectangular area portion in real time from an image photographed by a camera or a moving image during being reproduced to continuously trace the detected rectangular area in a time direction in a terminal such as a mobile phone with restricted throughput. SOLUTION: Each image frame is acquired from an input image, a rectangular area is detected from the image frame and stored in a storage means as a rectangle candidate, rectangle feature quantity of each rectangle candidate is detected, the feature quantity information of a rectangle to be traced which has been traced in a preceding frame is acquired from the storage means, these feature quantititss are compared with each other to determine a rectangle, the tracing rectangle is stored in the storage means as a rectangle to be traced, and the four-corner coordinates of the rectangle to be traced which has been stored in the output means are output.
