The system has a drive (18) e.g. electric motor, with a stator arranged in a housing, and a rotor arranged in the stator. A programmable logic controller (12) is arranged within the housing and attached at the housing or resides in direct proximity to the housing. The controller monitors and interprets sensor data and to control operating parameters of the drive or the system without an external drive controller. The controller coordinates the operation of the drive with further components of the system. A monitor system is communicatively connected with the drive. An independent claim is also included for a method comprising a step of receiving sensor data.
