Bis(optionally 2-substituted 2-propenyl)polysulphides, allylic bis-cycloalkenyl-polysulphides, sulphur chain extension thereof & of methyl allyl polysulphides

Diallylic polysulphides (polysulfanes) are provided of formula: wherein:

3-22;

R<1> is

H or a substituent as defined in the specification;

provided that when n is 3-8, R<1> is not H; and of formulae: and wherein:

n is

3-20.

Also provided are processes for extending the sulphur chain length of diallyl polysulphides, and 2,2'-disubstituted analogues thereof, and of methyl allyl polysulphides (Me-Sn-CH2-CH=CH2, n / 2), by bringing such compounds into contact with elemental sulphur and heating to a temperature in excess of 50{C, or by mixing with molten sulphur.
