An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to array liquid crystals vertically to a substrate at an area with no a polymer layer, thereby advantageously displaying a black color and inhibiting the lowering of contrast. A pair of substrates(10,20) are located oppositely to each other. Pixel electrodes(10B) are formed on the inside of the substrates and have gaps, respectively. A liquid crystal layer(30) is sealed by pixel electrodes between the substrates. The gaps are alternately arranged and form the crossed arrangement between the pair of pixel electrodes. The liquid crystal layer has pre-tilt regions including slanted liquid crystal particles. The distance between adjacent pre-tile regions is smaller than that of the gaps of pixel electrodes in two substrates. The gap is formed by a V-shape stripe pattern along the surface of the substrate. Plural openings of an interception layer are formed with a V-shape pattern along the shape of the gap.
