A system and a method for providing context-based information and advertisement service in an idle screen of a mobile terminal are provided to provide designated information and advertisement contents selected by a user from a fixed line website as an idle screen image of a mobile terminal selected by the user. When a fixed line website is connected and an idle screen service is requested by a user through the fixed line website, a subscriber management unit(11) downloads an idle screen service terminal unit to a mobile terminal of the user. An information and advertisement service registration unit(15) collects information and advertisement contents, extracts an index of the collected information and advertisement contents, classifies them according to a reference classification system, and stores them. An idle screen service server unit(16) searches the designated information and advertisement contents selected by the user from the information and advertisement service registration unit, and provides the designated information and advertisement contents to a mobile terminal of the user by interworking with the idle screen service terminal unit.
