A method for eliminating hysteresis from a magnetoelastic torque sensor is provided to selectively eliminate an axial hysteresis magnetic residual component with leaving a preferential circumferential magnetic residual component. A method for eliminating hysteresis from a magnetoelastic torque sensor includes the steps of: supporting a coil concentrically with respect to a magnetoelastic portion of the torque transducer; and exciting a coil with an alternative current having a frequency and a size to eliminate a hysteresis magnetic residual component selectively(88,90). The coil exciting step includes a step of eliminating only axial component of the remaining component of the magnetic field with leaving a circumferential component of a magnetic pole of the torque transducer.
