A weight training treadmill and a method for controlling the same are provided to allow a user's force to act as a weight training when a braking voltage of a motor is generated when a running belt is moved in a reverse direction, and a controller to change a driving and a braking force of the motor according to the user's force so as to regulate an exercise strength. A weight training treadmill includes: a driving motor, controlled by a motor driver; a running belt(1), arranged on two rotating axes which are distanced from each other, in such a manner that it wraps them and is rotated by them; a lower frame(13), on which the running belt is mounted; a vertical frame(14), supported by the lower frame; and a controlling device(4), mounted on the vertical frame so as to control the motor driver. The running belt is stopped after it is moved by a determined distance in a determined direction by the motor, and then moved in a reverse direction by a user's force, so that a forward driving force of the motor is removed, and so just a load resistance is generated, and that the load resistance of the motor acts as a weight training load.
