A plasma display device and a driving method thereof are provided to accelerate a scanning process by reducing the width of scan pulse by sufficiently using priming particles during an address period. A plasma display device includes a PDP(Plasma Display Panel), a controller(200), and drivers(300,400,500). The PDP includes plural row and column electrodes which form plural discharge cells. The controller classifies the row electrodes into first and second row groups and classifies the first and second row groups into plural first and second sub groups. During respective first successive sub-fields of the sub-fields, the drivers select non-light emitting cells from the light emitting cells in one of the first sub groups during a first address period. During the first address period, the drivers bias the row electrodes in some of the second sub groups at a first voltage, and apply sustain discharge pulses having high level and low level voltages to the row electrodes included in the rest of the second sub groups.
