An information retrieval device and an information retrieval method are provided to retrieve information suitable for taste of a user correctly and quickly in an information device viewing, recording, and finding a TV program or a moving picture. An operation information obtainer(11) obtains a set of past operation information of a user and operation contents of each operation information. A user taste pattern extractor(17) extracts taste of the user from the operation information set and the operation contents. The user taste pattern extractor extracts a user taste pattern by finding weight of the operation information from the operation contents, assigning the weight to a search key including the operation information based on the found weight, and summing up importance of the search key common to each operation information of the operation information set. The operation information is the information of programs and the search key is a word, a name, and program time included in a program name or contents. The operation contents are view, record, playback, fast forward and erase operations. |
