A control apparatus for a DC motor in an image forming apparatus and a method thereof are provided to reliably control the DC motor by using motor speed estimated during low speed driving of the motor to reduce a speed error. A control apparatus for a DC motor(80) in an image forming apparatus includes a speed sensor, a speed estimating unit(40), and a motor driving unit(70). The speed sensor generates a pulse corresponding to speed of the DC motor. The speed estimating unit determines whether speed estimation of the DC motor is required or not according to the speed of the DC motor and estimates the speed of the DC motor according to the speed measured by the speed sensor in case that the speed estimation of the DC motor is required. The motor driving unit drives the DC motor according to the speed estimated by the speed estimating unit.
