PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric double layer capacitor featuring high energy density and excellent long-term reliability by having electrolyte with high withstand voltage and low internal resistance. SOLUTION: As electrolyte solution of electrolyte of the electric double layer capacitor, ionic compound expressed by Formula 1a or Formula 1b is used. In the formulas, R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are univalent fluorine organic groups of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and they are independent of each other.
