<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance a rate of carbonylation of methanol or its reactive derivatives in the presence of an iridium catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: Methanol or a reactive derivative thereof is carbonylated by bringing the same into contact with carbon monoxide in a reactive liquid composition comprising (a) acetic acid, (b) the iridium catalyst, (c) methyl iodide, (d) at least a finite quantity of water and (e) methyl acetate. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
