RAW DATA COMPRESSING METHOD

Provided is a RAW data compressing method capable of not only compressing such RAW data under a high pressure and with a low distortion as is acquired by a single-plate type solid imaging element having a CFA but also realizing a preview function to confirm the compressed RAW data conveniently as an image by a JPEG decoder. In the RAW data compressing method, the RAW data observed by the single-plate type solid imaging element having the CFA is directly compressed as the "JPEG data capable of decoding the RAW data". The decoding process and the down sampling of the JPEG decoder are formulated. The JPEG data, which corresponds to such a quantization DCT coefficient as to reduce the error between the decoded RAW data and the observed RAW data is generated as the "JPEG data capable of decoding the RAW data". Computations to determine the quantized DCT coefficient are repeated to reduce the parameter number of the DCT coefficient. The quantization table of the DCT coefficient is redesigned to generate the "JPEG data capable of decoding the RAW data".
