<p>An apparatus and a method for handover in a broadband wireless communication system are provided to search neighboring BSs for the minimum bandwidth, thereby reducing the power consumption of a terminal, shortening a searching time, and increasing the scheduling flexibility of a BS. A method for handover in a broadband wireless communication system comprises the following steps of: communicating with a service BS(Base Station)(301); determining whether it is necessary to search a neighboring BS(302); performing neighboring BS searching for a sub frequency band allocated to each cell boundary area of neighboring BSs(303); comparing the signal intensity of the service BS with the interference signal intensity of the frequency band allocated to each cell boundary area of the searched neighboring BSs to determine to perform the handover; and receiving a channel allocation message from the service BS through a receiving unit(305).</p> |
