The present invention relates to a device for transporting a flat article (1') comprising a first transport means and a second transport means enabling continuous transport of apart spaced articles (1') one after other in an exact distance from each other. The second transport means consists substantially of a first belt or chain continuous conveyor (12) provided with two transport elements (3) disposed at intervals across the direction of movement (6), each having a strip laying surface (10) extending parallel to the direction of travel (6) and serving for supporting a given transport element (3) during passage of the transported article (1') edge sections. Each of both the transport elements (3) is returned and guided to form a buffer loop (13) such that the return end (14) of the transport element (3) oriented counter the transport direction (6) is adjustable during entrainment of the transport element (3) from a basic position counter to the transport direction (6) and parallel to the transport direction (6) to receiving position.
