A push rod (203) for a sliding type portable terminal (100) including a first housing (101) and a second housing (102) which is placed on and slidably coupled to the first housing (101). The push rod (203) provides driving force for slidingly moving the second housing (102). The push rod includes a casing (231); support members (233,239) coupled to the casing (231) to be extended and retracted through both ends of the casing; elastic members (237) for providing elastic force in directions in which the respective support members (233,239) are extended through both ends of the casing (231); and rotation members (235) rotatably coupled to outer ends of the support members (233,239) and rotatably coupled to the respective first (101) and second (102) housings.
