A gelling or solvating agent for vinyl polymers comprises a resin derived from a butadiene derivative which contains, in the 1-position, a cyanogen group and an esterified carboxyl group, and which may be alkylated in the 4-position. Specified vinyl polymers are polyvinyl chloride, copolymers of vinyl chloride, polyvinyl acetate and polyvinyl alcohols. Rubber may also be intermixed with the gels as described in Specification 665,125. The vinyl resin may be mixed with a liquid low polymerized butadiene derivative and the gel obtained by addition of an alkaline accelerator at the end of the mixing, when, with the application of heat, the low polymer resinifies. In the example, a hard gel is obtained by mixing on a roller up to a temperature of 160 DEG C., polyvinyl chloride in a ratio of 1 : 1 with a resin obtained by the polymerization in an alkaline medium of a -cyanosorbic isobutyl ester. |
