A plasma display apparatus and a driving method thereof are provided to execute high speed scanning by using priming particles formed in a sustain period, during an address period. In successive plural first sub-fields among plural sub-fields, row electrodes are divided into row electrodes of first and second row groups(G1,G2). The row electrodes of first and second row groups are divided into first and second sub-groups. During first and second periods on respective first sub-groups, while applying a first voltage to first electrodes included in the first and second sub-fields, non-light emitting cells among light emitting cells of the first sub-groups are selected and light emitting cells of the second and first sub-groups of the second and first row groups are sustain-discharged, respectively.
