CHIRAL DOPANT FOR NEMATIC OR CHOLESTERIC LIQUID CRYSTAL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chiral dopant inducing a large twisting force by generating asymmetric amplification of twisting conformation of liquid crystal molecules using a chiral dopant containing an inexpensive compound in a little amount. SOLUTION: The chiral dopant for nematic or cholesteric liquid crystals containing the compound expressed by specific general formula (1) and a liquid crystal composition blended with the same are provided. In a measurement system containing 4'-hexyloxy-4-cyanobiphenyl as the liquid crystal,≥60/μm twisting force is preferably attained by the chiral dopant of the invention. The amount of the chiral dopant to be added is 0.001-30 mole% based on the sum total amount of the liquid crystal and the chiral dopant. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
