The method involves generating a changeover request for activating and/or deactivating a software-based function according to an extradition of a motor vehicle. A function-based and vehicle-based code is generated based on the changeover request. The function-based and vehicle-based code is read in a diagnose unit and is transmitted into a vehicle-sided control device over the diagnose unit, where the control device examines the code and permits or does not permits activation and/or deactivation of the function depending on the examination.
