A ceramide synthesis accelerator containing the sap of grapevines as an active ingredient; a ceramide synthesis accelerator containing the sap of grapevines and serine as active ingredients; a cosmetic preparation and a skin preparation for external use which each contains either of these ceramide synthesis accelerators; and a method of using these. Thus, a means of safely and effectively improving the barrier function of the skin is provided.
