PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suitably correct an image signal if a defective pixel gets saturated without adding any special device constitution while keeping a release time lag short. SOLUTION: With respect to a signal obtained from an imaging element having a plurality of pixels each including a photoelectric converter which receives and converts light from a subject image into a signal, a semiconductor area to which the signal from the photoelectric converter is transferred, a transfer means of transferring the signal of the photoelectric converter to the semiconductor area, and a readout means of reading a signal out of the semiconductor area, the saturation charge amount of the photoelectric converter is calculated (S11) from a first signal obtained by reading out a signal flowing to the semiconductor area, and a second signal read out of a photoelectric converter of a pixel adjacent to the pixel is corrected (S12) based upon the calculation result.
