PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a person recognition device and a person recognition method, allowing efficient access control or person monitoring for a person of a recognition object, based on photographing conditions by a plurality of cameras. SOLUTION: The first face detecting part detects a face of a passenger, based on an image photographed by the first camera set to be easily recognized by the passenger. The second face detecting detects the face of the passenger, based on an image photographed by the second camera set difficult to be recognized by the passenger. A classification part classifies the passenger, based on a detection result of the face by the first face detecting part and a detection result of the face by the second face detecting part, and regulates a threshold value for authentication used for face collation processing by a face collation part, based on a classification result. The face collation part calculates the similarity between feature information of the face obtained from a face image of the passenger and feature information of the face of a registrant stored in a face feature control part, and determines whether the passenger is the registrant or not, according to whether the calculated similarity is the regulated threshold value for the authentication or more, or not.
