PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developing member etc, for an image forming apparatus preventing the occurrence of unevenness in density in an image due to developer dropped from a developer carrier and used again for developing without being sufficiently agitated in a developer supplying member mainly for three reasons. SOLUTION: A developing device in the image forming apparatus has the developer carrier for developing a latent image provided with a fixed magnet inside for retaining the developer by magnetic force and the developer supplying member supplying the developer from below the developer carrier to the developer carrier, wherein the fixed magnet generates a region with large normal line magnetic flux density and a region with little normal line magnetic flux density. The developing device is provided with a function for recovering the developer by dropping the unused developer from the developer carrier to the developer supplying member in the region with the little normal line magnetic flux density after developing the latent image by the developer in the region with the large normal line magnetic flux density. In addition, the restricting member is provided which is positioned in a recovery path for the developer to be recovered from the developer carrier and restricts the path of developer in the recovery path.
