The method involves stripping the protective coatings (3,4) from a light conducting fiber (1), assembling two half shells (7) of low melting point composite glass solder with coefficient of thermal expansion matched to that of a metal invar alloy lead-through sleeve (5), with the fiber in grooves in the half shells, and melting the half shells together and to the glass fiber and sleeve by local heating. An Independent claim is also included for an hermetic glazing arrangement for a light-conducting fiber.
